Uranium stocks showed some signs of life with a bounce back in December 2008 despite the spot price remaining at $53/lb. A quick look at the list below indicates the percentage gains achieved by some of the household names in this market sector.
Denison: $0.60 - $1.18, 96% gain
Laramide: $0.55 - $0.98, 78.18% gain
Mega: $0.42 - $0.77, 83.33% gain
Aurora: $0.90 - $1.80, 100% gain
Khan: $0.175 - $0.43, 145% gain

The uranium spot price stands at $55/lb according to UXC and TradeTech with the long-term price of uranium trading at $70/lb.
The long term factors behind uranium and nuclear power appear to have been completely disregarded over the past year or so, with the relentless dumping of uranium stocks and, more recently, the commodity itself with drops now being seen in the long term price.

Uranium One impressed with a gain of 34.38% closing at $0.86 with Crosshair adding 25% and Strathmore Minerals adding an astonishing 63.16%. With one or two exceptions this tiny sector moved higher on the back of the Ben Bernanke rate cut taking rates for the US Dollar down to 1% (read more…)

The chart above shows the uranium spot price at $58/lb according to UXC and at $60/lb according to TradeTech with the long-term price of uranium trading at $80/lb.
It’s been a torrid time for holders of uranium stocks with many investors throwing in the towel and moving on and who can blame them when this sector has been well and truly shunned. An example of the current sentiment is reflected in the stock price of Crosshair Exploration and Mining Corporation, which is now trading at $0.265 (read more…)

A month ago it looked promising as there were signs of a small rally forming however this appears to have dissipated as investors used the higher prices to cut their loses and return their cash to the sidelines. According to The Ux Consulting Company (UxC) the price of uranium on the spot market slipped recently $2/lb to $63/lb. However, the long-term price remains steady at $95/lb and over at NYMEX the futures price for most of this year is around $65/lb. But, we can detect some stirring amongst uranium stocks as bargain hunters move to secure stocks at cheap prices (read more…)

This is probably the most asked question that we get in our mail bag these days, uranium stocks looked like bottoming once or twice, which turned out to be a false dawn.
